ND stands for Naturopathic Doctor. As a naturopathic doctor I have been trained to take a holistic approach in learning about the person seeking care and to recognize that the body can often heal when given the right supports. In many situations lifestyle modifications or herbal remedies can be effective, but in other cases, pharmaceutical medications or surgery are needed. In medical school we learn conventional standards of care as well as how to utilize other interventions when appropriate. In Washington state naturopathic doctors can be primary care doctors, although not all choose to be. We can also order most tests that other general practitioners can order, diagnose, and prescribe many pharmaceutical medications (excluding most controlled substances) when indicated. Many naturopathic doctors may suggest additional tests, as many patients are coming to them when they have not been able to get answers through the mainstream diagnostic process. In summary, naturopathic practices can vary widely, please read more in "My Approach" or schedule a free 15 minute discovery call to learn more.
