ND stands for Naturopathic Doctor. As a naturopathic doctor I have been trained to take a holistic approach in learning about the person seeking care and to recognize that the body can often heal when given the right supports. In many situations lifestyle modifications or herbal remedies can be effective, but in other cases, pharmaceutical medications or surgery are needed. In medical school we learn conventional standards of care as well as how to utilize other interventions when appropriate. In Washington state naturopathic doctors can be primary care doctors, although not all choose to be. We can also order most tests that other general practitioners can order, diagnose, and prescribe many pharmaceutical medications (excluding most controlled substances) when indicated. Many naturopathic doctors may suggest additional tests, as many patients are coming to them when they have not been able to get answers through the mainstream diagnostic process. The capacity to act as your primary care doctor, such as making referrals to specialists when needed or requesting approval for certain procedures or medications, may be limited based on your specific insurance plan. Not all Naturopathic Doctors choose to focus on primary care.

For clinical care at Simply You Medicine, I do not bill insurance directly, but if you have out of network coverage, I can provide you with a super bill that you can submit to your insurance for reimbursement. You will want to check with your insurance company directly about your out of network coverage and typical amount of reimbursement. Most Flex or Health Savings Accounts (FSAs or HSAs) can be used to cover naturopathic care, as well as lab and supplement costs.
